Keputusan Wenger mengundurkan diri sebagai pelatih Arsenal mengejutkan. Pasalnya, kontrak pria berusia 68 tahun tersebut di tim yang berjuluk Meriam London itu baru berakhir pada akhir musim 2018--2019.
Entah apa yang menjadi penyebab Wenger mundur sebagai pelatih. Namun, prestasi merosot The Gunners pada musim ini diindikasikan menjadi salah satu faktornya.

Musim ini, Wenger memang gagal memberikan gelar Arsenal di tiga ajang domestik. Di antaranya adalah Liga Primer Inggris, Piala FA, dan Piala Liga Inggris. Selain itu, ia juga gagal membawa Arsenal lolos dari penyisihan grup Liga Champions.
Beragam reaksi para pemain pun muncul atas keputusan Wenger mengundurkan diri sebagai pelatih Arsenal. Salah satunya adalah gelandang Arsenal Aaron Ramsey. Lewat akun twitter miliknya, ia memberikan penghormatan untuk Wenger.
"Merupakan suatu kehormatan bisa bermain untuk Anda dan memenangkan gelar dengan Anda. Anda menjadi pengaruh besar dalam hidup saya di luar lapangan yang mengubah saya dari anak laki-laki hingga menjadi pria. Saya sangat senang melihat semua orang menunjukkan rasa terima kasih dan penghormatan. Anda pantas mendapatkannya. Terima kasih, bos," ujar Ramsey.

Sanjungan dan ucapan terima kasih juga dilontarkan gelandang Arsenal, Jack Wilshere lewat akun twitternya.
"Kepada pria yang memberi saya kesempatan sejak berusia 16 tahun dan menunjukkan kepercayaan dan komitmen yang tidak saya sangka. Ia adalah pria sejati, seperti ayah yang selalu berada dalam masa-masa sulit dalam karier saya. Ia selalu percaya pada saya ketika orang-orang meragukan saya. Terima kash atas semuanya, bos!" kata Wilshere.
Wenger tidak hanya mendapatkan sanjungan dari para pemainnya. Sejumlah pujian pun juga didapat Wenger dari legenda hingga rivalnya di twitter.
