“Someone You Loved” menjadi salah satu lagu pop balada yang menyentuh hati pendengar lewat kisah kehilangan dan kerinduan terhadap seseorang yang pernah menjadi bagian penting dalam hidup.

Lagu ini menggambarkan emosi seseorang yang harus menghadapi kehidupan tanpa kehadiran sosok yang selama ini memberinya kenyamanan. Melalui melodi yang melankolis dan vokal emosional, Lewis menyampaikan betapa sulitnya menyesuaikan diri setelah kehilangan seseorang yang begitu berarti.
 
Sementara itu, dalam wawancara dengan NME pada 2019, ia juga menjelaskan bahwa lagu “Someone You Loved” terinspirasi oleh dua pengalaman kehilangan, yakni berakhirnya hubungan asmara dan kematian anggota keluarganya.
