Jakarta: The Japanese police in the Isesaki area have arrested four Indonesian citizens (WNI) on suspicion of renting vehicles to overstaying WNIs and driving vehicles without a driver's license (SIM) on January 17, 2024.
Of the four WNIs, one has legal status, while the other three are overstayers or their residence permits have expired.
"At present, the investigation process is still ongoing," said the Director of the Protection of Indonesian Citizens and Legal Entities (PWNI and BHI) of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Judha Nugraha, in a written statement to the media on Sunday, March 10, 2024.
"In addition to the four WNIs mentioned, several other WNIs have also been arrested in connection with the same case, but they have requested the police not to inform their cases to the Indonesian Embassy in Tokyo," he added.
Since the beginning of this case, the Indonesian Embassy in Tokyo has been monitoring the development of the case and is ready to provide legal assistance.
Last February, an Indonesian citizen was arrested by the Japanese police for allegedly registering a car by falsifying its owner's identity.
According to local Japanese media reports cited by the Instagram account kensyu_hits on Wednesday, February 28, 2024, the Foreign Affairs Division of the Gunma Prefecture Police and the Isesaki Police had arrested a 45-year-old Indonesian citizen who worked for a company in Sano City, Tochigi Prefecture.
The arrest was based on suspicions of falsification of records and distribution of original electronic notary documents regarding car ownership. Japanese media did not mention the initials of the Indonesian citizen involved.
