Berlin: Three Indonesian citizens have become victims of a bus accident in Germany, one of whom has died.
According to information from the Indonesian Embassy in Berlin obtained by medcom.id, the deceased Indonesian was a 20-year-old female student who was pursuing a bachelor's degree at Hochschule für Technik und Wirtschaft (HTW) Berlin.
On the Instagram page of PPI Germany, the victim is identified as Anatasya Leoni, a member of PPI Germany, serving as a Staff member of the Department of Self-Development and Career, for the 2023/2024 term.
"PPI Germany extends its deepest condolences on the departure of our beloved friend, Anatasya Leoni, a Bachelor student at HTW Berlin in the Wirtschaftskommunikation program. Tasya was also part of the larger PPI Germany family for 2023/24, serving as a Staff member of the Department of Self-Development and Career,” the post reads.
"We unite in prayers for Tasya. May her deeds and worship be accepted, may she be granted the best place in His sight, and may the family she left behind be given strength and fortitude,” the post adds.
As of now, the victim's body has not been handed over to the Indonesian Embassy or the family because it is still under the supervision of the German police and prosecutor's office, and an autopsy will be conducted later.
Meanwhile, the two injured Indonesian victims are a married couple residing in Norway, who had just visited their sibling in Berlin and were on their way back to Norway. Currently, the couple is in stable condition.
According to police sources also reported by local German media, the bus, named Flixbus, carrying 54 passengers including the driver, departed from Berlin bound for Zurich, Switzerland on Wednesday, March 27, 2024, in the morning local time.
The accident occurred around 9:45 a.m. on the autobahn A9 or toll road in the Leipzig area.
The bus veered off the road, slipped into a ditch, and overturned to the right.
As a result of this accident, four people were pronounced dead, one of whom was Indonesian, six suffered severe injuries, 29 sustained minor injuries, and the rest are in good condition.
Until now, the police are still investigating the cause of the accident.
