Tornadoes recently struck the Rancaekek area, Bandung Regency, West Java. The phenomenon occurred around 15:30 - 16:00 WIB, resulting in strong winds affecting the Jatinangor area.
This is not the first time tornadoes have hit the Bandung area. Previously, on June 5, 2023, this natural disaster also occurred in the villages of Bojongmalaka, Rancamanyar, and Andir Subdistrict, Baleendah, Bandung.
Tornadoes themselves are strong winds that swirl resembling a trunk. This phenomenon occurs for a short period, less than 10 minutes. Nevertheless, tornadoes can cause damage.
Tornadoes are formed from Cumulonimbus (CB) Cloud systems that can cause extreme weather. However, not every Cumulonimbus Cloud will lead to tornadoes. The occurrence of tornadoes also depends on atmospheric stability conditions.
"The tornado phenomenon generally occurs more frequently during the transition period between seasons and is not impossible to occur during the rainy season," explained BMKG in a press release.
