Jakarta: A fire and several explosions occurred at the Ammunition Warehouse owned by Kodam Jaya in Gunung Putri, Bogor Regency, West Java, on Saturday night, March 30, 2024. The incident is suspected to have been caused by expired ammunition.

This was conveyed by the Commander of Kodam (Pangdam)/Jaya Major General Mohamad Hasan. He mentioned that there was friction among expired ammunition.

"We analyzed that this was due to expired ammunition," said Hasan during a press conference on Saturday, March 30, 2024.

Hasan explained that the ammunition was estimated to be over 10 years old. The ammunition or explosive materials contained chemicals.

"So, the possibility is because, like explosives, it's chemical material, which is highly likely to be unstable, and indeed we no longer use it. So, the possibility is like that," said Hasan.

"And there is no external electrical system in the warehouse. It's likely that the friction of the ammunition itself caused smoke or explosions," Hasan continued.

On the other hand, Hasan has taken steps regarding expired ammunition. His side is carrying out a return process from units scattered within the Kodam Jaya environment.

"The expired ammunition is returned from various units served throughout the Jakarta Kodam area, and we have 160 thousand types and explosives," Hasan explained.
