Jakarta: United States Embassy Jakarta’s Naval Criminal Investigative Service and Diplomatic Security Service’s Office of Overseas Criminal Investigations hosted the second annual Information Exchange on Crimes Against Women and Children (IECAWC) from March 5 to March 7 in Jakarta.

Keynote speakers at the March 5 opening  event included US Mission to ASEAN Ambassador Yohannes A. Abraham; U.S. Embassy Jakarta Charge d’affaires a.i. (CDA) Michael F. Kleine; Minister of Women Empowerment and Children Protection Ms. I Gusti Ayu Bintang Puspayoga; Chief of International Relations Division Police Inspector General Krishna Murti; and Director General of Immigration Mr. Silmy Karim.

The three-day information exchange, gathering dedicated professionals on the front lines of combating crimes against women and children, brought together a diverse group of experts to foster dialogue and collaboration, to better represent the marginalized and underserved, and to create a safer and more just world for women and children.

The program focused on providing support for innocent victims of abuse, sexual assault, and other heinous crimes, serving as a platform for knowledge sharing, skill enhancement, and relationship building.

"It is especially fitting that we are holding this event during Women’s History Month and during the twenty-year anniversary of the US Violence Against Women Act in the United States,” said US Embassy CDA Kleine.

"The Act was revolutionary in shining a light on a problem that had long existed but was rarely discussed. For all of you in the field who are dedicated to making a difference, I am inspired by your courage, your perseverance, and your commitment.  You have our full support."

Indonesia and the United States cooperate closely on the protection of women and children. The US government works closely with Indonesia to strengthen its efforts to improve diversity protection, provide victim resources, and improve social economic benefits of the under-represented.

2024 marks the 75th anniversary of relations between the US and Indonesia, as our countries continue to elevate a partnership that is rooted in shared values. The United States and Indonesia embrace diversity as a source of strength.  This principle is deeply ingrained in the US-Indonesia relationship and reflected in our national mottos: "Bhinneka Tunggal Ika" and "E Pluribus Unum" – out of many, one.
