Indonesia, Qatar Support Peace Process in Afghanistan

Jakarta: Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi held a meeting with Qatari Foreign Minister Skeikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani in Doha, Qatar on Thursday.
 
The two Foreign Ministers agreed to continue to strengthen bilateral cooperation, especially in the economic sector. 
 
One of the collaborations is investment cooperation in telecommunication, tourism and electricity sectors. 

"We must continue to oversee the economic cooperation between the two countries in order to accelerate the post-pandemic economic recovery," said the Indonesian Foreign Minister in a press statement after the meeting.
 
Trade between Indonesia and Qatar continued to increase in the last 5 years. Meanwhile, Qatar's investment in Indonesia focused on tourism and energy in the last 3 years. In 2020, investment realization from Qatar in Indonesia was valued at USD6.2 million.
 
In addition, the Foreign Ministers also exchanged ideas on several regional issues, especially the peace process in Afghanistan. The Foreign Ministers agreed on the importance of international support to maintain the momentum of the peace process. Qatar appreciated Indonesia's role which focuses on the role of women in Afghanistan.
 
"The role of women must continue to be prioritized both in the peace process and in post-conflict Afghanistan," said Retno.
 
Previously, Indonesia's top diplomat met with Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi and Palestinian Foreign Minister Riyad al-Maliki in the first two days of her Middle East tour.
