Jakarta: ASEAN Member States express their deepest sympathies and condolences to the Governments and people of Indonesia and the Timor-Leste for the tragic loss of lives, displacement of people as well as extensive damage to property caused by the severe floods and landslides as a result of the Tropical Cyclone Seroja.
"ASEAN affirms its solidarity with the Governments and people of the Republic of Indonesia and the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste, and is confident that they can overcome and recover from this natural disaster," said ASEAN Foreign Ministers in a statement on Wednesday.
"ASEAN stands ready to extend its cooperation and support to the Republic of Indonesia and the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste during this challenging time," they stated.
Tropical Cyclone Seroja formed over the Savu Sea on April 4, moving south-west towards the Western Australia coast.
Following its passage, the Indonesian National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) reported at least 138 fatalities in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) Province.
Meanwhile, The Government of Timor-Leste reported at least 37 fatalities in the country.
