Chongqing: Indonesian Minister of Foreign Affairs Retno Marsudi has urged ASEAN and Myanmar to immediately implement the Five Point Consensus.
The consensus includes sending a special ASEAN envoy to Myanmar.
The message was delivered during an informal meeting between ASEAN foreign minister that was held on the sidelines of the ASEAN-China Foreign Ministers' Meeting
"The mandate from the ASEAN leaders pertaining to the Five Point Consensus has been clear," said the minister.
"The success of the implementation of the Five Point Consensus requires Myanmar's commitment, especially from the military," she explained.
According to Indonesia's top diplomat, the appointment of a special envoy has to be done immediately.
Moreover, the special envoy should be equipped with policy guidance that is in line with the Five Point Consensus.
“Special Envoy should be granted access to be able to speak and this of course requires the commitment from Myanmar Military," Retno stated.
"I also stress that this is a mandate that is listed in the Five Point Consensus which is to communicate with all parties,” she added.
