Madrid: The Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK) has affirmed that Indonesia continues to encourage the sustainable production of environmentally friendly goods. This step is carried out through a systemic approach.
"Systematically, the Indonesian government has issued a number of provisions relating to sustainable consumption patterns," said Head of the Center for Environmental and Forestry Standardization, Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK) Noer Adi Wardojo at the Ifema Building in Madrid, Spain on Friday, December 6, 2019.
Noer said that the real evidence was in the form of the distribution of legal timber, environmentally friendly offices, and the development of environmentally friendly product standards. Moreover, the procurement of goods or services must be environmentally friendly in government agencies.
Noer pointed out, for example, replacing disposable plastic shopping bags with reusable bags. The practice, he said, has been successfully applied in many places in Indonesia
Climate change has become a reality. Mitigation efforts must be carried out while aligning the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
On the same occasion, the Senior Acting Secretariat of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) Martin Frick called on all parties to harmonize the implementation of SDGs. Moreover, greenhouse gas emissions due to human or anthropogenic activities continue to increase.
"The impact of climate change, which is considered to be still under control, has taken effect," said Frick.
He added natural disasters such as heat waves and extreme rainfall continues to increase. These symptoms, said Frick, are evidence that climate change has occurred.
In addition, he continued, the impact of climate change threatens many island nations. Because the sea level increase has reached seven to eight meters more from the previous year.
"Let all parties jointly take more concrete actions to prevent climate change from getting worse," concluded Frick.
