Indonesia Holds World Class Scholar Symposium

Jakarta: The Ministry of Research, Technology, and Higher Education, supported by the Ministry for Foreign Affairs, has been hosting World Class Scholar Symposium (SCKD) since 18–25 August 2019. 
 
This event was the third one since it was first held in 2016 as the Visiting World Class Professor (VWCP).
 
SCKD aims to provide a platform for Indonesian diaspora scholars to make their contribution to accelerating national development, accelerating transfer of science and technology, and advancing research and development (R&D). 

"This symposium is also expected to be a continuous collaboration between domestic and overseas scholars," the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a press statement released on Monday.
 
The collaboration among Indonesian Diaspora Scholars has produced 25 under-review journals, 30 submitted journals, 18 manuscript journals, 35 accepted journals, 28 proceedings, 90 published journals, 18 conferences, various short courses at the best universities in England and Germany, and participation in the World Class Professor (WCP).
 
A total of 55 diaspora scholars has been selected to participate in SCKD 2019, coming from 15 countries, namely Japan, England, America, Australia, Singapore, Malaysia, Germany, Brunei Darussalam, Switzerland, Sweden, South Korea, Saudi Arabia, France, Netherland, and Finland. 
 
In addition to professors, associate professors, assistant professors, and industry representatives, SCKD 2019 has also invited the participation of diaspora scholars in postdoctoral position.
 
"The selected diasporas are Indonesian scholars that occupy strategic positions at their respective workplace, have made major contributions to science, have a strong academic background, have accomplished various achievements, and have produced world-renowned works," the ministry added.
 
SCKD has entered its fourth year and this year, for the first time, it is held in collaboration with the Ministry for Foreign Affairs. The symposium was opened by Indonesian Vice President Jusuf Kalla at the Vice Presidential Palace on 19 August 2019, in the presence of Indonesian Minister of Research, Technology, and Higher Education and Indonesian Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs.
