Jakarta: Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi and her Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov today discussed how Indonesia and Russia strengthen bilateral health cooperation.
"In the short term, of course the issue concerning vaccine procurement, therapeutic and diagnostic remains the priority," said Retno during a joint press statement after a bilateral meeting.
"Russia conveyed its commitment to strengthen this short-term cooperation," she added.
According to her, All cooperation will comply with the guidance from the two countries’ health authorities as well as the World Health Organization (WHO).
For the record last month the Head of the Indonesian Food and Drugs Administration (BPOM) visited Russia to directly observe the facilities for the production of the Sputnik V vaccines.
"Since the very beginning of the pandemic Indonesia and Russia have worked closely to address it," she stated.
Indonesian President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) and Russian President Vladimir Putin conducted phone conversation in March 2020 concerning the cooperation to deal with the pandemic.
Russia also donated anti-viral drugs and medical equipment to Indonesia
at the early stage of the covid-19 outbreak.
"This cooperation will be strengthened through MoU on Health Cooperation between the two countries that is being finalized at this moment," she stated.
"This MoU will become a foundation for health cooperation in the medium and long-term including the plan to jointly produce vaccines between Indonesia and Russia," she added.
