Jakarta: The Indonesian Foreign Affairs Ministry has denied a report from the US Departement of Defense which says that China is planning to build an overseas military logistics facility in Indonesia.

"Our Free and Active foreign policy does not allow this kind of military cooperation with any country," the Indonesian Foreign Affairs Ministry spokesperson Teuku Faizasyah said here on Thursday.

"It is impossible to have this kind of cooperation. Indonesia always actively supports Zone of Peace, Freedom and Neutrality (ZOPFAN) in ASEAN. We consistenly rejects the existence of foreign military facilities in Southeast Asia," he explained.

Earlier this month, the US Department of Defense announces the release of its annual report on "Military and Security Developments Involving the People’s Republic of China."

The congressionally mandated report serves as an authoritative assessment on military and security developments involving China.

This report accounts for the China's national strategy and the drivers of China’s security behavior and military strategy, covers key developments in China's military modernization and reform, and provides new insights into China's strategic ambitions in the Indo-Pacific and beyond.

"Beyond its current base in Djibouti, the PRC is very likely already considering and planning for additional overseas military logistics facilities to support naval, air, and ground forces. The PRC has likely considered locations for PLA military logistics facilities in Myanmar, Thailand, Singapore, Indonesia, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, United Arab Emirates, Kenya, Seychelles, Tanzania, Angola, and Tajikistan," the report said.

"The PRC is seeking to establish a more robust overseas logistics and basing infrastructure to allow the PLA to project and sustain military power at greater distances," the report said.
