Indonesia Committed to Supporting Peace, Prosperity in South China Sea Region

Jakarta: The Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in collaboration with the Geospatial Information Agency, is holding the 31st Workshop on Management of Potential Challenges in the South China Sea region in Jakarta on 23-25 ??August 2022.
 
The workshop is attended vitually or physically by 84 participants from Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Laos, China, Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Chinese Taipei, Thailand, and Vietnam.
 
The workshop aims to build closer cooperation to support peace, stability and prosperity in the South China Sea region. 

The workshop facilitates the strengthening of technical and scientific cooperation between related parties to build mutual trust and cooperation in the region.
 
The workshop was opened by the Head of the Foreign Policy Strategy Agency (BSKLN) of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Yayan G.H. Mulyana. 
 
In his remarks, the Head of BSKLN emphasized the importance of strengthening cooperation and fostering a culture of dialogue. 
 
"The South China Sea area cannot be separated from the impacts of climate change such as rising sea levels and their impacts on communities in coastal areas. For this reason, it is necessary to strengthen cooperation for a better future."
 
Since the first Workshop in Bali in 1990, the Workshop is intended to bridge cooperation and strengthen trust in order to support peace, stability and prosperity in the South China Sea.
 
The workshop for 3 decades has succeeded in facilitating a constructive dialogue as well as being a forum for exchanging information, experiences, and best practices. 
 
The participants have a strong commitment to identify potential cooperation in various fields of mutual interest.
