Indonesia, UK FMs Discuss Education Cooperation

Jakarta: Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi held a bilateral meeting with her British counterpart Jeremy Hunt in London on Tuesday.
 
"Indonesia is the UK's close partner," the Indonesian Foreign Ministry's website quoted the British top diplomat as saying.
 
The two ministers discussed a number of issues, including education cooperation. The UK Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs also revealed his plan to visit Indonesia.

"In the next five years, national human resources development will be Indonesia's main focus," Retno told journalists after the meeting.
 
On Monday, the Indonesia-UK Partnership Forum was held in the UK's capital. Besides Retno, It was also attended by Indonesian Education and Culture Minister Muhadjir Effendy, British Deputy Prime Minister David Lidington and British Asia-Pacific Affairs Minister Mark Field.
 
At the forum, the two countries agreed to strengthen their bilateral relationship in a number of sectors, especially education sector. Aside from discussing the partnership in education sector, the forum also discussed other prioritized sectors, such as potential economic partnership and trade agreement following the UK's decision to exit the European Union (EU).
 
The Partnership Forum was initially held in 2007, that was chaired by Indonesian Foreign Minister and invited Indonesian Minister of Defense. It was the follow-up to the agreement made by the head of government of both countries in 2006 to strengthen their bilateral relationship and hold strategic dialogues on multilateral and global issues.?
