Muhammad Syahrul Ramadhan, Christopher Harindra • 17 September 2019 17:58
Jakarta: The Indonesian Government will provide scholarships to around 100 Ethiopian nursing students.

A total of 100 scholarship recipients will study at the Nazhatut Thullab Institute of Health Sciences (STIKES), East Java in the 2020-2021 school year.

The Indonesian Ambassador to Ethiopia, Al Busyra Basnur, said that the scholarship program is a form of Indonesia's concern and contribution in fostering bilateral relations between the two countries.

"In the future we hope that Indonesia can contribute more to the progress of the nursing world in Ethiopia, including sending nurses," Al Busyra Basnur said in a press release received by Medcom.id on Tuesday, September 17, 2019.

Scholarships were awarded by the Nazhatut Thullab Prajan Camplong Sampang Foundation in East Java as the manager of the Nazhatut Thullab STIKES which is also a boarding school. This scholarship for Ethiopian students is a new breakthrough that needs to be appreciated and emulated by many Indonesians.

"Indonesia has a great opportunity for cooperation in the field of nursing with Ethiopia, particularly in capacity building, which is sending Indonesian nurses to train prospective Ethiopian nurses as well as medical devices and medicines to government hospitals," he said.

Medical and health personnel in the African country is very much needed. The number of medical personnel is still not comparable to the ratio of the total population of Ethiopia.

"Currently Ethiopia needs a large number of nurses for health services. The ratio of the number of nurses and residents of Ethiopia is 1 to 4,500 people, "he concluded.
