Jakarta: Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi chaired the first COVAX AMC EG Meeting in 2022 on Tuesday, March 15, 2022.

"COVID-19 case rates continue to decline in most regions of the world. Global vaccination is also continuing. More than 10.9 billion doses of vaccine have been administered worldwide. We must use this momentum to strengthen efforts to end the pandemic," Foreign Minister Retno said in a media release on Tuesday.

After her mandate as Co-Chair of the COVAX Advance Market Commitment Engagement Group (AMC EG) was extended until the end of 2022, Foreign Minister Retno once again acted as Co-Chair, together with Canadian Minister of International Development and Ethiopian Minister of Health at the 8th COVAX AMC EG Meeting.

While leading the 2nd session, which discussed updates on the Omicron variant and the effectiveness of the vaccine, Foreign Minister Retno emphasized that the main priority was to achieve the vaccination target set by WHO.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs also conveyed the importance of assistance related to the implementation of vaccinations.

COVAX AMC is a global mechanism that aims to distribute vaccines free of charge to its member countries, namely 92 lower-middle-income and low-income countries.

Since March 11, 2021, Indonesia has received 34,631,500 doses of vaccine from the COVAX AMC mechanism.

Meanwhile, 64,508,205 doses of vaccine have also been received through the COVAX dose-sharing mechanism.
