Jakarta: Indonesian Minister of Foreign Affairs Retno Marsudi on Monday joined the opening of 64th International Atomic Energy Agency in Vienna through a video tapped message.
"Underlined IAEA to continue carrying out its mission while contributing to global efforts in the fight against covid-19 pandemic," said the minister on her official twitter page on Monday.
The IAEA has delivered support and equipment for the rapid and accurate detection of the coronavirus that causes since the start of the pandemic, contributing to global efforts to manage and reduce the spread of the disease.
It has received requests from many countries for this support, based on a nuclear-derived method known as real time reverse transcription–polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR).
RT-PCR is used to detect the presence of specific genetic material in any pathogen, including a virus.
According to the agency, it is one of the most widely used laboratory methods for detecting the coronavirus that causes covid-19.
