Jakarta : Indonesian Minister of foreign affairs Retno Marsudi traveled to New York on Tuesday to attend a UN General Assembly meeting about the ongoing violence between Palestine-Israel.
According to Voice of America (VOA), the meeting is scheduled to take place on Thursday.
In an open debate at the UN Security Council last weekend, Indonesia urged the UN to help de-escalate the situation in the region and ensure that Israel follows the international law and
the UN Security Council resolutions.
"UN Security Council should not stand still when confronted with blatant threats towards peace and international security," Indonesian Ambassador to the UN, Mohammad K. Koba, said.
"This situation has the potential to take a turn for the worse in the coming days and in the middle of a very concerning situation due to the covid-19 pandemic," said Koba.
Therefore, Indonesia voiced out to the international community to increase humanitarian aid for the people of Palestine and called out to Israel to not hinder the distribution of the desperately needed aid in Palestinian areas.
According to reports, the crisis has killed at least 200 Palestinians, including 59 children and 35 women.
In Israel, the death toll has reached 10, including 2 children. (Translator: Natasha Celia)
