Pompeo's Visit Expected to Strengthen Ties between Indonesia, US

Jakarta: Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi is optimistic that United States (US) Secretary of State Mike Pompeo's planned visit will help enhance relations between the two countries.
 
"The planned visit was also discussed when I received a courtesy call from new US Ambassador to Indonesia Sung Y Kim yesterday," said Indonesia's top diplomat during a virtual press briefing here on Thursday.
 
According to the Indonesian foreign minister, the US is one of Indonesia's strategic partners. As a result, Indonesia wants to continue to strengthen its cooperation with the country.

In Indonesia, Secretary Pompeo will meet with his Indonesian counterparts. In addition to that, he will also participate in the Anshor Youth Movement Forum.
 
"I believe my bilateral meeting with Secretary Pompeo will produce good results and strengthen bilateral relations between our country and the US," she stated.
 
From October 25-30, the US Secretary of State is scheduled to travel to several Asian countries. Besides Indonesia, he will also visit India, Sri Lanka and Maldives.
 
Earlier this month, Indonesian Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto visited the US to meet with US Secretary of Defense Mask Esper. Later this week, a US International Development Finance Corporation delegation will also travel to Indonesia.
