Jakarta: The Chinese Embassy in Indonesia has denied Australian Strategic Policy Institute's report that says the Chinese Government destroyed many mosques in Xinjiang in recent years.
"The report is just a slanderous rumor. As revealed by Australian sources, ASPI has been receiving funds from the US government and arms companies. Due to ideological prejudices, the institute is so passionate about promoting and spreading anti-Chinese topics," said the embassy spokesperson in a written statement on Monday.
"It has become an anti-Chinese force with no academic credibility at all," the spokesperson added.
According to the spokesperson, the religious freedom and other rights of all ethnic groups in Xinjiang, including the Uyghurs, are fully guaranteed and protected under the law. There are now more than 24,000 mosques in Xinjiang. It is ten times more than the total number of mosques in the US.
"This means that on average every 530 Muslims in Xinjiang owns one mosque, a proportion higher than that of many Muslim countries," the spokesperson explained.
"This bad report lacks any credibility," the spokesperson continued.
