Indonesia, Japan Strengthen Cooperation to Combat Covid-19 Outbreak

Jakarta: Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe had a teleconference with Indonesian President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo on Thursday, April 23, 2020. 
 
"The two leaders discussed various matters, including USD1.45 million assistance for Indonesia's covid-19 handling," the Japanese Embassy in Indonesia said in a press release on Friday, April 24, 2020.
 
At the beginning of the conversation, President Jokowi expressed his gratitude to the Japanese Government for their assistance, including the cooperation during the evacuation of Indonesian crew members on the Diamond Princess cruise ship. 

"Both parties believe that the handling of the covid-19 outbreak is a major challenge and agree to collaborate closely to overcome this crisis together," the Japanese Embassy in Indonesia stated.
 
Furthermore, Prime Minister Abe explained the Japanese Government's efforts to overcome the Covid-19 outbreak. 
 
In addition, he also revealed the Japanese Government's assistance to Indonesian medical personnel as well as medical facilities through international organizations including WHO and UNICEF. 
 
On this occasion, he also requested the Indonesian Government to ensure the safety and security of Japanese citizens and Japanese companies in Indonesia.
 
Responding to this, President Jokowi expressed his willingness to work together.
 
Lastly, Prime Minister Abe also requested that medical equipment, including medical gowns, could be exported to Japan.
