Washington: United States (US) Secretary of State Antony Blinken has welcomed Myanmar goverment in exile's pledge to address discrimination and human rights abuses against Rohingya.
Last week, the National Unity Government (NUG) issued the Policy Position on the Rohingya in Rakhine State.
"We are committed to promoting peace, security, & respect for human rights of all people in Burma, including Rohingya," Blinken wrote on his official twitter page on Monday.
"The NUG's pledge to address discrimination & human rights abuses against Rohingya is an important signal to all those working for an inclusive, democratic future," he stated.
According to NUG, Rohingyas are entitled to citizenship by laws that will accord with fundamental human rights norms and democratic federal principles.
The country’s controversial 1982 Citizenship Law could be repealed once a new constitution has been drafted.
