Indonesia Discusses Palm Oil Issue during ASEAN-EU Meeting

Jakarta: The Indonesian Government raised the issue of palm oil during the ASEAN-EU Ministerial Meeting in Bangkok, Thailand on Thursday.
 
"Trade barrier against palm oil is like a pebble in the shoes for Indonesia-EU relations," said Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi on her official twitter account this afternoon.
 
"Indonesia hopes that a clear mandate for the work of ASEAN-EU WG on palm oil can be established," the Indonesian top diplomat noted.

From July 31 until August 2, Minister Retno is scheduled to attend the plenary and retreat meeting of the ASEAN Foreign Ministers' Meeting (AMM), the East Asia Summit Foreign Ministers' Meeting (EAS) meeting, the ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF), and other ten meetings with all ASEAN dialogue partners.
 
According to reports, the meeting series involve foreign ministers from 10 ASEAN countries and 10 ASEAN speech partners, namely the US, Australia, India, Canada, Japan, Republic of Korea, Russia, New Zealand, China, and the EU.
 
Based on data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), Indonesia recorded  a trade surplus of USD196 million in June 2019. However, cumulatively, Indonesia recorded a trade deficit of USD1.9 billion in the first semester of 2019.
 
Overall, Indonesia's exports reached USD80.32 billion in the first semester of 2019. The number was down by 8.75 percent compared to the same period last year
