Jakarta: The Delegation of the European Union (EU) to Indonesia celebrates the Earth Day today by conducting a virtual talk show themed "Protect the Earth Starting from Your Plate."
This event is expected to increase the awareness of the Indonesian youth and their parents on the importance of preserving our earth as the source for our food security, and to motivate to reduce ecological impacts through daily activities.
The event was attended by the Director General for Management of Marine Space at the Ministry of Marine and Fisheries, Tb Haeru Rahayu, and featured a number of environmental activists from various sectors.
"Earth Day is an important moment to strengthen our commitment to protecting the earth. The EU recently launched 'the EU Green Deal', a new growth model and roadmap to achieve the state of climate-neutral across the EU by 2050. One of the policies is ‘From Farm to Fork’, which promotes a food system design that is fair, healthy and environmentally friendly. This policy also strengthens our efforts to tackle climate change, protect the environment and conserve biodiversity," EU Ambassador to Indonesia Vincent Piket said in a press release on Thursday.
Through EU Earth Day 2021, the EU wishes to encourage youth actions to make changes and inspire them to take real actions.
"The forest, ocean, river, farm, and garden will remain sources of our foods and livelihoods only if we maintain a harmonious relationship with nature. This principle underlies the From Farm to Fork approach," added Ambassador Piket.
