Indonesia Raises Concerns on Influx of Waste to Southeast Asia

Jakarta: Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi raised concerns on the influx of toxic waste to Southeast Asia during the 52nd ASEAN Ministerial Meeting Retreat in Bangkok, Thailand on Wednesday.
 
"Southeast Asia is not a trashcan for illegal waste of other countries," said the top Indonesian diplomat on her official twitter account on Wednesday.
 
"Indonesia urge ASEAN to send a strong signal to the countries of origin of illegal waste," she added.

From July 31 until August 2, Minister Retno is scheduled to attend the plenary and retreat meeting of the ASEAN Foreign Ministers' Meeting (AMM), the East Asia Summit Foreign Ministers' Meeting (EAS) meeting, the ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF), and other ten meetings with all ASEAN dialogue partners.
 
According to reports, the meeting series involve foreign ministers from 10 ASEAN countries and 10 ASEAN speech partners, namely the United States of America, Australia, India, Canada, Japan, Republic of Korea, Russia, New Zealand, China, and the European Union.
 
In addition to that, Minister Marsudi is also expected to meet with foreign ministers of a number of countries, including Australia, the United Kingdom, China, and Vietnam.
