medcom.id, Jakarta: Minister of Foreign Affairs Retno Marsudi has confirmed the kidnapping of three Indonesian sailors in Lahat Datu, Sabah, Malaysia.
The sailors worked in a Malaysian fishing vessel when the incident happened.
"The vessel brought seven crew. Four sailors were freed while three were taken by the attackers," she said in a press conference in Jakarta, on Monday (7/11/2016).
The incident occurred in Sabah waters on Saturday (7/9) night. Five heavily armed men approached the fishing vessel with a speed boat. Malaysian police received report about the situation a day later.
Abu Sayyaf is suspected behind the incident. According to information, the three sailors are currently in Tawi Tawi, the Philippines.
This is the fourth such incident in a year. Seven Indonesian sailors were kidnapped by Abu Sayyaf in Sulu waters last month.
