medcom.id, Jakarta: Minister of Foreign Affairs Retno Marsudi has confirmed the hijackings of two Indonesian vessels, Charles 001 tugboat and Robby 152 barge, in the shouthern Philippines.
Seven Indonesian sailors are currently held hostage by the hijackers.
"It occurred in Sulu waters on June 23. It happened at 11.30 AM and 12.45 PM local time by different hijackers," she told reporters on Friday (6/24/2016).
"At first, 13 sailors were kidnapped. But then, six sailors have been freed," she continued.
The six sailors now are on the way back to Indonesia with Charles 001 tugboat and Robby 152 barge.
"We cannot tolerate this. The Indonesian government will take action to rescue the seven sailors. We prioritize their safety," she underlined.
The Indonesian government urged the Philippine government to ensure the security in the southern Philipppine waters. This is the third incident for Indonesian sailors in the region.
"We are ready to cooperate in this issue," she concluded.
