medcom.id, Jakarta: Indonesia is trusted to lead a partnership forum joined by more than 40 nations of the world. The forum is established to overcome the threats of deadly virus and contagious diseases on the face of the earth.
The Coordinating Minister of Human and Cultural Development (PMK) Pun Maharani stated that Indonesia is to become the head of the Global Health Security Agenda (GHSA) international forum in 2016 to replace Finland. Previously, the forum had been led by the United States of America.
"In the Global Health Security Agenda forum, there will be more discussions on the matter of contagious diseases such as SARS, Ebola and MERS, as well as the others," mentioned Puan after leading the coordination meeting at her office, Jakarta, Monday (11/39/2015).
In the meeting, Coordinating Minister of Politic, Legal and Security, Luhut Binsat Panjaitan was also present, along with the Health Minister Nila F Moeloek and Minister of Agriculture Amran Sulaiman.
The nations present in the GHSA meeting are to discuss many ideas related to health and contagious diseases threats. The forum, Puan continued, will also discuss the cooperation in preventing contagious diseases from spreading.
"Aside from that also (discussing) how the researches are related to the virus and bioterrorism can be unified with 40 other countries," said Puan.
Puan mentioned that Indonesia as the chairman of the forum and representative of developing countries and Asia is to draft a stance prior to the meeting in 2016.
"We wish, as the representative of the developing country, to prevent these contagious diseases from entering Indonesia and other countries," mentioned Puan.
Indonesia's stance will be drafted in a meeting in Yogyakarta on December 3-4, 2015. One of the issues to be conveyed, continued Puan, is the proposal from Indonesia to cooperate in preventing other contagious plague from spreading.
Meanwhile, Minister of Health Nila F Moeloek mentioned that the meeting in Yogyakarta is to be attended by 10 steering committee nations of GHSA. In the meeting, Nila explained, the 10 countries including Indonesia are to discuss 11 action packages drafted when the GHSA forum was led by the United States.
"It is not just to discuss health, but also security. As we know, for example, that Ebola does not only create health problems, but also other effects in a country," mentioned Nila.
According to her, the benefits that can be reaped by Indonesia into becoming the chairman of GHSA forum is the capability of addressing Indonesia's interests.
"We can arrange what we need and what we don't need. As a member, we can only accept," mentioned Nila.
