medcom.id, Jakarta: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed two Indonesian vessels were hijacked in the Philippines. At least ten Indonesian crew were also taken hostage by the hijackers.
These are information from press release published by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson Arrmanatha Nasir received by Metrotvnews.com, Tuesday (3/29/2016):
- Two Indonesian vessels, Brahma 12 and Anand 12, were hijacked. It brought 10 Indonesian crew and 7,000 tons of coal.
- The two vessels were hijacked en route from Sungai Puting (South Kalimantann) to Batangas (South Philippines). The time is unknown. The shipowner received information about the hijacking on March 26 when he received phone call from someone who claimed as Abu Sayyaf member.
- Brahma 12 has been released but Anand 12 and all crew are still held by the hijackers.
- Through two phone calls, the hijackers demanded ransom money to the shipowner.
Minister of Foreign Affairs Retno Marsudi has coordinated with related authorities in Indonesia and the Philippines including Philippines Foreign Minister.
According to Arrmanatha, the safety of the crew is the government's top priority. The shipowner has informed the situation to the crew's relatives.
