medcom.id, Jakarta: The Indonesia Government conveyed its concern about recent tension between Saudi Arabia and Iran. Indonesia urged both countries to show restraint and avoid actions that could endanger stability in the region.
According to press release from Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Tuesday (1/5/2016), Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi will immediately contact Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Secretary General, Iran Foreign Minister and Saudi Foreign Minister to find best solution.
Tension between the two countries emerged after Saudi executed Shiite cleric and activist, Nimr al-Nimr.
Nimr was called as terrorist by the Saudi Government after he led anti-government movements in 2011 and 2012.
The execution triggered uproar in Iran. Saudi Embassy in Tehran, Iran was burnt by angry protesters.
Saudi then retaliated by cutting diplomatic relationship with Iran.
