medcom.id, Damascus: An Indonesian citizen who became a worker in Syria, Sri Rahayu, managed to escape from the ISIS-controlled city, Raqqa. She told the experiences in the ISIS stronghold.
The Office of Socio-Cultural Information of the Indonesian Embassy in Damascus recorded Sri Rahayu's story when ISIS started to occupy Raqqa.
"First time ISIS entered Raqqa was on January 2, 2014, Monday, 4 AM (local time)," mentioned Sri to officials in Damascus, as quoted by Metrotvnews.com, from the Youtube page of the embassy, Friday (3/18/2016).
"That night, everyone was shocked, in chaos, and ISIS entered Raqqa. Some of the Syrian army fled, some were killed, and some were captured and shot dead," she continued.
However, according to Sri, the daily life in Raqqa during ISIS' occupation was safe. Residents did not ask much, as they have to cover their faces when going out from their houses.
Sri experienced a frightening encounter when shopping in the market. There, she saw beheaded human heads being exhibited.
"When I went to the market to buy some vegetables, I saw human heads. They were lined up to eight heads, and some were hanged," added Sri.
"I was afraid. I threw the vegetables I bought, I was afraid (and went) straight home. Some people were afraid, but some took photos," she concluded.
"I was afraid, since they were not animal's heads, they were human heads. We are humans," told the woman now living in a shelter inside the Indonesian Embassy in Damascus.
Sri Rahayu did not work for ISIS supporters in Raqqa. Her employer, Abdul Azim al-Ujaeli, is a native resident stuck in the city due to his old age.
After the embassy conducted multiple screenings against Sri Rahayu, there were no indications that the Indonesian citizen born in 1976 has any sympathy towards ISIS. She even admitted of hating ISIS, as she witnessed their vile actions in Raqqa.
