medcom.id, Jakarta: Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi opened the IORA Council of Ministers Meeting in Jakarta on Monday, March 6, 2017.
"We continue to witness a number of challenges such as conflict, terrorism, irregular movement of persons, illicit drug trafficking and climate change as well as shift on the global and politiical order resulting from populism and protectionism," Retno said.
"We shall lead by encouraging closer regional and international cooperation to sustain stability peace and security in the region," she ccontinued.
"We shall convert global challenges into opportunities in the Indian ocean region," she added.
The IORA Leaders Summit will be held on March 7. The summit will be attended by 16 VVIP guests.
IORA has 21 member countries. It consists of Indian Ocean coastal states.
