Indonesians in France: We Are Still Afraid

Fitra Iskandar • 15 November 2015 15:18
medcom.id, Paris: Following the incident of the armed group in Paris, the atmosphere of the capital is still tense. Tiara, 38, one of Indonesians living in Paris admitted to be afraid of going out.

The attack on Friday evening, November 13, occurred on several points in Paris, France. At least 129 people were killed in the incident, as 352 others injured.

Tiara admitted she had been only aware of the shooting news at the Stade de France, which killed three people and an attack on the Bataclan concert area. In the morning, she found out that there were more than 100 killed.

"At first we took the initiative to stay home, after that, there was an advisory from the Embassy (to be careful). We didn't go anywhere today, as we are still afraid," said tiara to Metrotvnews.com, Saturday (11/14/2015).

According to Tiara, who lives at the area near Chaetau de Versailles, southwest of Paris, the situation in Paris and its surrounding was quite in the morning after the incident. Markets, museums, offices, schools were all closed. It includes the cancellation of all public events including the U2 concert, which was supposed to be held Saturday evening.

"My husband went out of the house. He said every place was closed." In the morning, some people went out of their houses to place flowers as their condolences.

The Indonesian embassy had urged Indonesians in France to raise their awareness and monitor their presence. The parents are also urged to monitor the presence of their children.

In the notice, Indonesian Embassy in Paris also urged Indonesians to obey the policy of border closures and other situational management after the Emergency Condition was initiated by the French government.

According to Tiara, who has been living in France for 15 years, on Monday, November 16, schools are estimated to again conduct their study activities, as military personnel will be deployed to safeguard the children in the schools.

This evening, French citizens light up candles as a gesture of mourning in front of the restaurant near the Bataclan concert arena, which was the point of attack. But Tiara saw from the tv screen that the number was not as many as the ones in the shootings of Charlie Hebdo's office on January 7.

"To show solidarity and condolences, tonight we light a candle nearby our homes. This is to show the terrorists that we are strong and solid."
