Indonesia and Japan Discuss Stability in South China Sea

medcom.id, Jakarta: Stability in South China Sea was one of the issues in the dialog between Minister of Foreign Affairs Retno Marsudi and Minister of Defense Ryamizard Ryacudu with their Japanese counterparts in Tokyo, Japan today (12/17/2015).
 
"Both ministers reviewed new opportunities in trade, investment, maritime cooperation and people-to-people relations," wrote Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs in its official account twitter, Thursday (12/17/2015).
 
Retno and Ryamizard held two plus two meeting with Japanese Minister of Foreign Affairs Fumio Kishida and Minister of Defence Gen Nakatani.
 
Several issues discussed in the meeting including cooperation on maritime, extremism eradication and regional security.
 
"In the 2+2 meeting, both countries agreed to follow up implementation of East Asia Summit statement about regional maritime cooperation," continued the twitter account.
 
Japan supported Indonesia's leadership in IORA and its effort to strengthen regional cooperation in Indian Ocean.
 
"Both countries also agreed to strengthen cooperation to ease tension and maintain respect to international law in South China Sea," said the statement.
 
2+2 meeting between Indonesia and Japan is the only such kind of meeting that is held by Japan with ASEAN countries. Both countries also agreed to promote pluralism.
