medcom.id, Jakarta: Islamic media has important role in promoting the Palestinian cause to the world, stated Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs A.M. Fachir.
"Many outcomes from various meetings and conferences may yet be felt in the grass root level," he said when opened the International Conference of Islamic Media (ICIM) in Jakarta, Wednesday (5/25/2016).
"Media understand what have been done in the government level and the situation in the grass root level," he continued.
The former Indonesian Ambassador to Saudi Arabia mentioned a lot of international meetings have been conducted to support Palestine including the 5th Extraordinary OIC Summit on Palestine recently held in Jakarta. Indonesia also brought the Palestinian issue at the Asian African Summit last year.
Fachir lamented unbalanced media coverage for Palestine and Islamic World in general. International media often position Palestine as the main cause of Palestine-Israel conflict. He wishes the world can assess the issue fairly. Moreover, the Palestinian people until now has not enjoyed full independence.
"This is our responsibility. This is what I call as justice," he added.
In the past few years, many countries has changed its position regarding Palestine-Israel conflict. ICIM is expected to further increase support for Palestine in the world.
