Jokowi Urges ASEAN & India to Increase Maritime Cooperation

medcom.id, Vientiane: President Joko Widodo joined the 14th ASEAN-India Summit in Vientiane, Laos on Thursday, September 8, 2016.
 
Jokowi praised India's support to the maritime cooperation in the region. He urged ASEAN and Indonesia to increase maritime cooperation.
 
"In either the East Asia Summit (EAS) or the Indian Ocean Rim Association (IORA)," Jokowi said.

Jokowi also urged both sides to increase economic cooperation, especially in small and medium enterprise (SME) sector. 
 
"We need to facilitate SMEs to strengthen their innovations and digital presence," he continued.
 
Trade between India and ASEAN reached RpUSD587 billlion in 2015. Meanwhile, investments from India to ASEAN reached USD1.245 billion in the same year.
 
"I believe strong connectivity can boost trade, investment,  tourism and people to people relations," Jokowi concluded.
 
Meanwhile, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi reminded ASEAN countries to maintain security in the region. Modi called for stronger cooperation to tackle  threats in the region.
 
Modi stated that India currently implements Act East foreign policy. The country is committed to increase cooperation with ASEAN in various sectors.
