medcom.id, Jakarta: US President Donald Trump has inaugurated Rex Tillerson as the new US secretary of state.
"We congratulate the new US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson," Indonesian Foreign Ministry spokesman Arrmanatha Nasir said in Jakarta on Thursday.
"We will observe his policies," Arrmanatha continued.
The US Senate approved his appointment yesterday. About 56 senators agreed with his appointment.
"Indonesia and the US have strategic relationship. Hopefullly he can srengthen biltateral relations between the two countries," Arrmanatha stated.
Tillerson previously led US oil giant ExxonMobil. He reportedly has close relationship with Rusia.
