medcom.id, Jakarta: Abu Sayyaf released three Indonesian hostages on Sunday (9/18). Defense Minister Ryamizard Ryacudu said the government did not pay any ransom to free the hostages.
"The Indonesian government and the Philippine government did not pay any ransom," he said at Halim Perdanakusuma Air Base in Jakarta on Sunday (9/18) evening.
Ryamizard underlined the Indonesian government will never pay ransom to the militant group.
"A sovereign country cannot bow to a militant group. Indonesia and the Philippines as sovereign countries will never pay ransom," he continued.
The three hostages are Lorence Koten (34), Theodorus Kopong (42) and Emanuel (46) from East Nusa Tenggara. The sailors were kidnapped in Lahad Datu, Sabah, Malaysia on July 9, 2016.
