Indonesia & Philippines Committed to Free 4 Remaining Indonesian Hostages

medcom.id, Jakarta: Minister of Foreign Affairs Retno Marsudi conducted bilateral meeting with her Philippine counterpart Joe Rene D. Almendras in Jakarta. The two ministers discussed effort to free four Indonesian sailors who are still held hostage by Abu Sayyaf in the southern Philippines.
 
The discussion took place prior to tripartite meeting between Indonesia, Malaysia and the Philippines in Yogyakarta on May 5. 
 
"I reiterated our gratitude to Minister Jose and the Philippine government for helping Indonesia freeing 10 Indonesian sailors from Abu Sayyaf," said Retno at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Jakarta, Wednesday (5/4/2016).
 
"I and Minister Jose discussed measures to free four Indonesians who are still held hostage," she continued.
 
Meanwhile, Minister Jose said the tripartite meeting could contribute to security in the southern Philippines. "I want the three countries agree to strengthen security in the region," he stated.
 
Both ministers also talked about bilateral and regional issues such as border settlement between the two countries.
