medcom.id, Jakarta: The ASEAN Commission on the Rights of the Women and Children (ACWC) has urged Indonesia to ratify ASEAN Convention against Trafficking in Persons, Especially Women and Children (ACTIP).
"So the convention can be implemented immediately," ACWC chairwoman Lily Purba said in Jakarta on Wednesday (9/28).
"After the ratification, the convention can be implemented at the national level," she continued.
Lily expects Indonesia to ratify the convention next year. The convention will not enter into force until it is ratified by at least six ASEAN members.
Trafficking is a serious problem in southeast Asia. One third of trafficking victims in the world are from the region.
