Danish FM Admires Istiqlal and Cathedral Facing Each Other

23 October 2015 12:58
medcom.id, Jakarta: The harmony of religious societies has become one of the most admirable ideas for Kristian Jensen in Indonesia.

Jensen, the Danish Ambassador to Indonesia, saw the example of the harmony from the position of Istiqlal Mosque and Cathedral Church.

"Two different worshipping places, facing each other, yet there is still harmony. That is Indonesia," said Jensen in his visit to Istiqlal and Cathedral, Jakarta, Thursday (10/22/2015).

Surely not only visiting the religious places, Jensen also conducted a dialog with several Indonesian religious leaders. He discussed the religious harmony and tolerance in Indonesia, the fourth most occupied country with the largest muslim population in the world.

Despite the majority of Indonesians are muslims, Jensen was impressed that there are no huge conflicts such as those in the Middle East. Islam in Indonesia is moderate, as it does not lean left or right.

"Two of your muslim organizations, NU (Nahdlatul Ulama) and Muhammadiyah are the important organizations to shape a democratic country," said Jensen to the media.

"It changes the view of my country about Islam in Indonesia. People will realize that Islam has an important role in establishing Indonesian republic," he continued. (Nabila Gita)
