Indonesia Should Take Caution With China's Activities Near Natuna

medcom.id, Jakarta: Indonesia is urged to take caution with China's activities near Natuna Waters, which is bordering the disputed territory in the South China Sea.

China's reluctance to explain the so called nine-dash line gives trouble to Indonesia's sovereignty.

Hashim underlined that China's nine-dash line is unfounded. China brought the claim to the United Nations in 2009, but many countries rejected it including Indonesia.

"Maybe not in Natuna, but the waters around Natuna. China might deploy its vessels there," said Indonesian senior diplomat, Hashim Djalal, in University of Indonesia, Jakarta, on Monday (6/13/2016).

"Therefore, we need to prepare the navy to protect our sovereignty," he added.

"Indonesia should also be able to maintain stability in the region," he concluded.
