medcom.id, Jakarta: The conflict at the controversial waters of South China Sea is heating up. China was condemned by several countries, including the United States, as it claims almost the entire South China Sea area.
The threats are increasing as China built an artificial island in the South China Sea, approximately in the Spratly Island.
Indonesia chose not to take sides on anyone in this conflict. Indonesia is committed to become a supporting country, to promote peace between the conflicting parties in South China Sea.
"Indonesia has never claimed any disputed islands in South China Sea. The most important issue for Indonesia is to maintain peace in the South China Sea region," mentioned the Spokesperson of the Foreign Ministry, Arrmanatha Nasir in Jakarta, Thursday (11/5/2015).
He explained that the Code of Conduct in the South China Sea, which will be functional as an operational mechanism to prevent conflict, is currently experiencing progress within its process. Indonesia will always try to support all nations to reduce tension and maintain the stability of the region.
"Progress is not swift, but it is there. The elements of COC is now being discussed. Indonesia will contribute in reducing the tension there, as we would like to boost the acceleration of the discussion to conclude COC," stated Arrmanatha.
Until currently, the tension of South China Sea is still occurring, even leaning to escalation, following the US battleship sailing nearby the Chinese made island. China was infuriated as saying such provocation may trigger war. (Nabila Gita)
