Retno Discusses Indonesian Hostages With Philippine FM

medcom.id, Manila: Minister of Foreign Affairs Retno Marsudi conducted meeting with her Philippine counterpart, Pervecto Rivas Yasay Jr, this morning in Manila, the Philippines.
 
The two ministers discussed about Indonesian hostages in the southern Philippines. Retno urged the Philippine government to improve security in the Sulu Sea.
 
"We ask the Philippine government to guarantee security in the Sulu Sea. Regarding 7 Indonesian hostages, their safety is our top priority," Retno said in a press release, Friday (7/1/2016).

The new Philippine government responded the request positively. Yasay ensured they are commited to end piracy in the Sulu Sea.
 
The Sulu Sea is important trade route between Indonesia and the Philippines. Indonesia exports coal for Philippine power plants. 
 
"Cooperation between the two countries is needed to prevent similar problem in the future. Indonesia is ready to increase cooperation either defense cooperation, security cooperation or economic cooperation," Retno concluded.
 
Both ministers also discussed other issues such as economic development and maritime border settlement.
