medcom.id, Jakarta: Prime Minister of Malaysia Najib Razak explained about the scandal surrounding 1 Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) in an exclusive interview with Metro TV on Wednesday (8/3/2016).

Najib stressed that the scandal is a politicized business issue. It is part of efforts to topple him and his government.

"This is originally a business issue. However, unfortunately, this business issue has been politicized by my enemies," he said to Metro TV .

"The motive is clear. As oppositions, as people who dislike my leadership, they will throw issues. Other issues don't get traction, but this issue receive attentions," he continued.

Najib believes the scandal will not threaten his position as prime minister.  He mentioned that his government coalition received good results in recent local elections.

"In the recent election in Sarawak, Barisan Nasional won with overwhelming majority. We also had two by-elections in Sungai Besar and Kuala Kangsar in Ramadan. Our results improved," he stated.

"If we use it as a measure in the open democratic system, people have made up their mind," he concluded.

1MDB is a development fund owned and managed by the Malaysian government. It was established by Najib in 2009. In the past few months, 1MDB has been hit by several fraud and corruption allegations.
