medcom.id, Jakarta: Philippine Minister of Foreign Affairs Jose Rene D. Almendras and Malaysian Minister of Foreign Affairs Anifah Aman along with military chiefs from the two countries are going to visit Indonesia on May 5.
They will hold meeting with Minister of Foreign Affairs Retno Marsudi and Indonesian Military Chief General Gatot Nurmantyo.
"There will be trilateral meeting between Indonesia, Malaysia and the Philippines. We will also have 2 plus 2 meeting," said Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson Arrmanatha Nasir, Jakarta, Thursday (4/28/2016).
"President Joko Widodo instructed Minister Retno and General Gatot to hold dialogue with Malaysia and the Philippines regarding security in Sulu and the southern Philippines," Arrmanatha continued.
Fourteen Indonesian sailors and four Malaysian sailors are currently held by Abu Sayyaf militant group in the southern Philippines.
"All officials have confirmed the invitation. It will be started with courtesy call to President Joko Widodo. They will discuss security in the border area of the three countries," the spokesperson explained.
The meeting will produce joint statement which mentions commitment to protect security in that region. Besides that, the foreign ministers and military commanders will also sign memorandum of understanding.
"It is our initiative to gather the three countries," he concluded.
