medcom.id, Jakarta: The National Commission on Violence Against Women (Komnas Perempuan) participated at the ASEAN People Forum 2016 in Dili, Timor Leste last week.
In a written statement received by Metrotvnews,com on Tuesday (8/9/2016), the commission mentioned that the participants discussed a wide range of issues.
The participants reviewed human rights in every ASEAN countries. They highlighted human rights issues in the region including death penalty, human traffickig and military dominance.
They urged ASEAN countries to apply human rights values in their policies.
As the youngest Southeast Asian country, Timor Leste has strong civil society environment. There are at least 400 non-governmental organizations (NGOs) in the country.
