medcom.id, Jakarta: Palestinian Ambassador for Indonesia Fariz Mehdawi said Palestinian people stay united despite rift at the higher level between Fatah and Hamas. He underlined that Palestinians are used to differences.
“We cannot deny it we have some problems at home like everybody . Even at your home maybe you have some problems,” he mentioned during exclusive interview with Metrotvnews.com in his office, Jakarta, Monday (1/29/2016).
Mehdawi explained there are many political parties and political movements in his country. Those parties have similar goal which is to liberate Palestine from the Israeli occupation. However, it does not mean they always see eye to eye about the best way to reach that goal.
“Different political parties have different approaches and we are familiar with that all the time. Since quite long time we familiar with that. So i cannot really overestimate those problems. I mean they are solvable,” he said.
He argued recent political situation in Palestine is not as bad as previous tensions since the country now has one government under President Mahmoud Abbas even though Hamas practically still controls Gaza Strip.
“For example, there is one minister of health, one minister of education. The rift is in higher level. It is not at the ordinary civil service level and the government machine is operational the same way wherever,” he continued.
The senior diplomat believes election is the best solution to solve political division in the country. With election, ordinary Palestinian citizens could decide the direction of their nation.
“Some political parties might not in agreement with our policies. But how do you solve that, through our own institution. I mean we have to go back to the people and let the people have their say through election just in every democratic civilization and this is exactly what we are looking for.
